Skincare is the first step to having a great makeup application. Every company claims that they have the miracle product that's going to turn back time, and make your skin look twenty years younger, but the trick to aging gracefully is taking preventative measures. You can't start worrying about your skin once you've realize it's too late. So, here's my pun-infused list of simple (and to many, obvious) habits to keep you skin looking the best it can.
1. Smoking does not make you look smokin'.
I can usually tell who is or was a smoker when I look at their skin. And although people don't think it has much of an effect, drinking alcohol will age the skin tremendously if done excessively.
2. She's not called Sleeping Beauty for nothin'!
Our culture, especially in New York City, has the mentality of "I'll sleep when I'm dead," but our bodies are just not meant to function on six hours of sleep. According to WebMD , "When you don’t get enough sleep, your body releases more of the stress hormone cortisol. In excess amounts, cortisol can break down skin collagen, the protein that keeps skin smooth and elastic."
3. Water you waiting for? Grab some H2O!
Everyone knows that water is good for your skin. It's pretty much common knowledge, but again, people don't worry about drinking water until they're thirsty. As it turns out, by the time you realize you're thirsty, your body is already extremely dehydrated. I keep a big bottle of water at my desk and usually just end up drinking it throughout the day because it's right in front of me. If I get sick of plain water, I throw a tea bag in the bottle and it infuses the water within a couple minutes.
