Take Your Own Headshot!

The DIY Headshot

From back in my college years, I understand what it's like to need a professional profile picture for LinkedIn or acting purposes and not having the hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars it can cost. That's why I decided to create a DIY headshot tutorial to give you the opportunity to take a great profile photo of yourself with any camera and have it professionally retouched for a fraction of the price.

IMPORTANT: A Do-It-Yourself headshot is no replacement for a professional headshot if you can afford one. This is just meant as something to use in the interim until you can afford to have a real profile photo done by a professional headshot photographer.

The images above were taken with low-quality cameras (iPhones or flipcams), and the person taking the photos did not know anything about photography.

Three Options:

Free Retouched Headshot
Follow the tutorial below for a great shot, and then have three of your friends sign up to our Monthly Headshots Drawing. We will do a Professional Level Retouch completely free.
Basic Level - $45
Follow the steps below and choose to have either the background changed or facial retouching done, so it looks like it was taken by a high-end camera.
Professional Level - $60
Follow the steps below and choose to have full retouching done to your headshot so there are no facial blemishes, a professional backdrop, and no other distracting elements.
VIDEO: Take Your Own Headshot with Great Lighting

How it Works:

  1. Get your hands on any camera above 2MP (most smartphone cameras will do). Note that the better quality the camera is, the better the finished shot will look.
  2. Watch the tutorial video below to learn how to actually take the headshot, making sure to follow the tips on getting good lighting, exposure, and proper focus, etc.
  3. Get a friend and ask them to take a few photos of you smiling and/or serious.
  4. Come back to this page and fill out the contact form at the bottom to upload your image, selecting which retouching option you want.
  5. You'll be taken to the link to place the payment, along with all of my contact information in case you have any questions.
  6. As soon as you complete the payment, you'll receive the finalized image in your email within 2-3 business days, and you're all set!
  7. If anything is missing or you need anything changed, you get one free retouching pass included, where you can make any other specific requests (provided they are within reason). Additional retouching passes cost a small extra fee, so be sure to clearly mention in the requests section below anything you'll need retouched besides the usual (pimples/acne removal, fixing some flyaway hairs, teeth whitening, and lightening under the eyes).
  8. Order prints through this link. We can have them ready within one business day and then mailed out to anywhere in the world. There is no setup fee if you choose to have an image retouched.

    Headshot Retouch Submission Form

    Max file size: 7MB
Please upload a JPEG format image under 7MB in size. Non-JPEG images cannot be accepted.
Please note that there are certain retouches that may not be doable or are extremely difficult, such as removing double chins, stubble, etc. Additional costs may apply.
