The past few weeks, working with City Headshots has been so many things.. hard, fun, challenging, exhausting, and rewarding (to name just a few). I would have to say all the fun comes with the team and all the challenges comes from their amazingly strenuous but informative class: Get Cast.
I freaking love this class. I've been helping Martin and Damion by recording and giving feedback to actors. Lately we have been discussing better ways to spread the word about the class, help other actors, and get the information and strategies we have out there.
The strategy aspect of the class is, in it's simplest form this: If you complete this action along with this action, the result will be this. Seems simple, but there are eight classes and about 50 of these in each class. So we are all thinking out loud and I say, "There's got to be a way for us to have case studies, prove that when you dedicate yourself to the class- success will follow." And Martin replies with, "So, you want to be the case study?" Immediately in my head I'm like, no- not me. Time goes on and we do our scenes... I am playing a strong, family oriented wife and mother and I am just not getting it. Damion and Martin are trying to tell me there is this strength inside of me that I can bring to the character, but I just wasn't able to grasp it.
With a few hours to boost up the confidence and courage I say to Martin. "You know what, I am going to be the case study. I am already doing it all, investing it all. I'm going to do it." Martin smiles at me and says, "Now that's what I'm talking about, that's the strength I was talking about earlier."
